How You Can Get Involved

Underdog Rescue and the companion animals they serve could not survive without the support and commitment of their wonderful volunteers. In fact, all their staff members are volunteers. They are always in need of new foster homes, volunteer drivers, and home-visit specialists.

Here are some ways you can help:

• Foster Home: Today’s tough economy has led to increases in dog and cat neglect, abandonment, and abuse. There are more adoptable cats and dogs being held in animal control facilities than there are spaces in foster homes to save them. Every week, Underdog Rescue has to make painful decisions about which dogs and cats they can save from euthanasia. If you have room in your home and in your heart for a temporary pet, there is a life, right now, that you can help them save.
• Volunteer Driver: They always need help transporting their adoptable cats and dogs to and from veterinarian appointments, from their rescue partner in Iowa, and to and from adoption events. If you are a safe driver, have your own vehicle and insurance, and can make room in your calendar for these kinds of short trips, you will be a hero!
• Home-visit Specialist: A part of any adoption or foster home application is a successful home visit. Underdog Rescue provides training to volunteers who pass their background check to become Home-visit Specialists. If you are conscientious, detail-oriented, and have great interpersonal skills, this fun and rewarding volunteer opportunity may be a perfect fit!
• Other Opportunities: If you’re unable to commit to one of the roles above, there are other ways to help. You can be an emergency or vacation foster home or an adoption event coordinator. If you have skills in accounting, fundraising, organizational development, or planning, your expertise can help Underdog Rescue meet its mission of saving lives.
